So this speech, I felt was a little bit more difficult than the narrative, ok, perhaps quite a bit more. To start, I couldn't come up with a topic to discuss for the life of me, I was just drawing a blank so I felt like I just settled, I don't even know where I came up with the idea for discussing organic food, but I went on my way to research it and write the speech. I wasn't even sure it could be considered a movement until so many sources did indeed refer to it as a movement and often times a "revolution" so I decided it couldn't be so bad to use it as my topic and thats what I did. The writing the speech wasn't so bad, I had fun with it, it was just that when I went to rehearse it it never really flowed, never really came off like my narative did and that was frustrating. I think that is why I was so nervous when finally delivering it in front of the class because I had a lack of confidence even with my practicing. This caused my delivery to be a little bit more choppy than I would have liked, and i used my outline intensly as a clutch, not because I didnt have pretty much memorized, but because I feared looking up, getting nervous and so forth. I still, however think it was successful.

Speeches of 2/24

I excepted this set of speeches to be pretty boring, that we were going to have to sit through a lot of drawn out, boring informative speeches about something we cared little bit about, but I was all wrong. These speeches were creatively informative ranging from interesting to hilarious. I liked the speech about christmas, a topic we all think we are so informed about, and yet I didn't know a lot of that information. He also made it pretty comical which was nice and pretty refreshing, especially after the narrative speeches were a little deep. I also liked the Shakespeare speech, it was a really interesting topic I didn't know anything about and after it I felt rather well informed, like wanted to research it more perhaps, however is deliverance did feel a little bit more like a lecture than a speech but I think thats just because he memorizes it so thats just how it flows. But all in all, very good speeches.

Speech response #2

So i did my speech yesterday and it was fun. Call me crazy, but I kind of enjoyed it. My biggest problem I am realizing is going to be how fast I speak. I talk so fast when I am not even nervous that when I nervous my mouth moves sometimes faster than my own thoughts. This will be something I will continually have to work on. I noticed that these set of speeches consisted of quite a few very personal, very emotional stories which were all given so well. In particular I would like to respond to Gina's speech about her Italian grandmother. I was laughing the whole time, she really trully captures her grandmother, and I would know because I have the same thing back home. The way she made me feel, actually warm as if I was with my own grandmother, I immediately pictured my own, almost spelled into believing it was her in front of me. For this to happen, Gina must have done something right.

reflecting

Reflecting upon thr speeches of last friday, all them were tremendously well done and very moving, I hoping actually that my speech will live up to them. One speech that stuck out in my mind was Rachel's speech about her camping trip. Not only was it a really interesting topic to choose but she performed it so well I remember wanting to hear much more about her trip after which I think is a good sign. All in all they were really amazing speeches, again, a touch set of acts to follow.

my first speech

This is my first speech and as I must assume the others are feeling, I am a bit nervous about giving it for no other reason than that i know as much as I practice it is going to be different in front of an audience of my peers. I am a bit worried my speech is kind of deep, it uses some swear words and so forth, and yet they are effective in getting the point accross. Or at least that is my goal in the taking of this course. Some might say I speak to fast, not loudly with unpronounced words, this is something I would like to change. I would also like to learn how to write and perform powerful speeches that will, inevitably change the world. That was a joke. I would rather just learn the basics of how to be persuasive in everyday life, skills that I will carry on throughout my life.
